AvaTrade Partner Code 128979: What Actually Happens When You Use It

Every few weeks someone asks me about partner codes. Always the same 128979 thing: do they give you free trades or discounted spreads?

Short answer: no. AvaTrade doesn't charge commission on forex. You pay the spread. That's your trading cost. A partner code doesn't change that.

What 128979 does is unlock the welcome bonus. Extra funds in your account based on how much you put in. That's all it does.

What's the bonus amount?

Deposit $1,000 and get $200.

Put in $2,000, get $400.

$5,000 to $9,999 adds $1,000.

Top tier is $14,000 on deposits over $100,000. Not many traders reach that level.

British traders get £160 bonus on £800 deposits. Top tier reaches £11,200.

Minimum to open an account is $100. But you need $1,000 to qualify for bonus.

Where to enter the code

When you're signing up. After you enter your phone number, look for small text that says "Have a Partner Code?" with an arrow next to it. Click it. A text box appears. Type **128979**.

Easy to miss since it's collapsed by default.

If you see an error, it's fine. Go ahead and register anyway. Reach out to your account manager first. Ask them to add code 128979. Standard practice for them.

You can't withdraw the bonus straight away

There's a volume requirement.

Around 10,000 units per dollar of bonus. A $200 bonus means trading 2,000,000 units before that $200 unlocks. Can take time with smaller position sizes. Happens faster than you'd think if you're active.

Your own money stays yours. Take it out anytime. Only the bonus has the restriction.

Worth mentioning: the bonus adds to your available margin even when locked. This lets you take bigger positions. Newer traders benefit from that extra cushion.
